Mount Elbrus crowns the Panorama of central Caucasus, Russia. The West Summit is the higher point of this twin-peaked, massive, glaciated volcanic dome. It is also the highest point in Europe and one of the Seven Summits. Geographically, the Caucasus marks the delineation between Europe to the north and Asia (particularly Turkey and Iran) to the south. “Mingi-Tau”, meaning “resembling a thousand mountains”, is the local Balkar name.
